Andrea Lau is a multidisciplinary artist from Toronto ON, now based in Calgary AB. Growing up she spent quiet summers in cottage country, collecting rocks and watching the sun dance across the waters of Georgian Bay. These formative experiences continue to shape her artistic perspective, grounding her work in the natural environment.
Lau’s work is rooted in her relationship with the natural environment and project/site specific responses. Artwork that responds to community using methods that are creative, yet tangible has fueled her work in public art. Her current studio project: Recess 3x3 is a research project about outdoor play, informed by over 130 elementary students from 3 local schools.
Lau earned a BFA from The Ontario College of Art and Design (now called OCAD University) with a specialization in printmaking and papermaking. Her work has received recognition from various organizations including the Calgary Arts Development, Buds Collective, and The Japanese Paper Place in Toronto.
